Types of brick pointing

Weather Struck Pointing

Achieving the desired results in flush pointing requires a considerable amount of skill and experience. This technique involves first pressing mortar into raked joints and then smoothing it to create an even surface for the pointing lines. The bottom edge is then meticulously trimmed using a sharp knife and straight edge, resulting in a joint that slopes smoothly from the top to the bottom. The finished flush pointing provides exceptional resistance to harsh weather conditions.

Flush Pointing

Flush pointing is a challenging and skilled technique used in brickwork and stone masonry to achieve a unique and rustic appearance. This type of pointing involves pressing mortar into raked joints between bricks or stones and then finishing it flush with the edges. This results in a rough and aged look that adds character and charm to the finished product. Because of its intricate nature, flush pointing requires extensive experience and skill to execute properly. Despite its challenges, this technique is widely used in face work for both brick and stone construction projects.

Tuckpointing

In this type of pointing, we press mortar in colour of the bricks into the raked joints first. After that, it is flush with the surface of the wall. In stage two, we apply lime putty mortar. Then the top and bottom edges of the joints are cut parallel to give a regular width and straight look to irregular brick and stone masonry. Read our blog and learn more about tuckpointing and traditional brickwork restoration.

Ribbon Cut Pointing

A type of pointing similar to weather struck pointing. While the pressed mortar is still not dry, we cut the top and bottom edges of the joints parallel, often used to give a regular joint width to irregular brick and stone masonry.

Customer Testimonials

I absolutely love my pointed brickwork. Thank you for an amazing job from start to finish. Not only does my home look great but it’s also increased the value.

Joanne Alderley Edge

You’ve done an excellent job on my house. The new pointing looks amazing. Thank you and I will recommend you to my friends.

Brian Wilmslow

My husband and I are very pleased with the work you carried out to our house. We had several quotes done for repointing, but you were the only one who took the time to discuss why we wanted it doing and what was appropriate for the problems we were having. You did a bang up job despite the awful weather and we'd be more than happy to use you again or recommend you to others.
